Production and deliveries – a strong H1 across the board

New aircraft deliveries and overall billing have increased across all sectors of business and general aviation, according to the latest edition of The General Aviation Aircraft Shipment & Billing Report covering the first six months of 2023.

The report, compiled by the General Aviation Manufacturer’s Association (GAMA), found that OEMs delivered 1,299 fixed wing aircraft in the first half of 2023, against 1,176 in the same period last year –an uplift of 10.5%. The increase in overall aircraft billing was more modest at 1.4% – USD9.2 billion up to the end of June 2023, compared to USD9.1 billion in the same period last year.

Among the overall positivity, there were also some standout successes in respect of particular sectors. While bizjet deliveries rose by just 2.4% over the six months, from 289 to 296, turboprop deliveries increased by 17.4%, from 247 to 290. Piston aircraft also recorded gains of 11.4% with 713 deliveries in H1 2023 against 640 in the same period last year.

Helicopters took the star spot in both deliveries and the value of overall billing. Deliveries of both piston and turbine models were up 30% with 451 deliveries made in H1 2023, against 347 in H1 2022. Helicopter billing also rose by 29.9%, from USD1.4 billion to USD1.9 billion.
